Outdoor Facility Feature: Hopkinton Little League, Massachusetts

SAFETY CONCERN

Hopkinton Little League is full of caring volunteers and parents. So, when the outdoor batting cages at their youth fields started wearing out it caused a great safety concern.  The board members knew they needed an upgrade but had limited funds. Hopkinton Little League board member, Mike Sullivan, connected with On Deck Sports Regional Sales Manager, Erik Turgeon, and found instant comfort that the project was in good hands. “The communication with Erik was phenomenal from start to finish.  He really got creative with the design of the cages which I greatly appreciated.”

OUT WITH THE OLD, IN WITH THE NEW

Because the old batting cages at Hopkinton Little League were built inside a wooden frame on the ground, Turgeon needed to find a way to efficiently place the cages. He suggested Sullivan and his team put the posts of the cage on the outside of the wooden framing, to optimize the space inside the cage. The Tuff Frame Elite system features 3 poles at each end with no poles in between the expanse.  “It was such a simple idea, but none of us even thought of it,” says Sullivan.

After hearing this, Hopkinton Little League chose to go with three Tuff Frame Elite batting cages that also feature a winch system so the netting can be manually raised or removed as needed. “The winch system is definitely the best upgrade. With the old batting cages, we had to pay a local landscaper to take it down or put it up every single time. Now it’s a one-person job done quickly and for free.” Sullivan also mentioned his appreciation for On Deck Sports batting cage installation team who when out of their way to teach the board members how to properly use the system.

Sullivan has reported great feedback from the league’s parents, who say the new batting cages look better and, most importantly, are providing proper and enhanced safety.
