Fitness Facility Q & A

Turning your dream gym into a reality is easier than one might think – that is, if you have the right resources to help. On Deck Sports boasts more than 15 years of experience in indoor facility design, so we know we have the right knowledge and resources for a smooth fitness facility project! We sat down with Strength and Conditioning Account Executive, Andrew Reardon, to answer commonly asked fitness facility project questions, and help guide the process for you.

I want to open a gym/fitness facility – where do I start?

AR: First, you will need to have a building. While we completely design and outfit the interior, On Deck Sports does not build the actual structure.

Next, if you are within a budget restriction, please give us an idea of what that restriction is. It will help us narrow down products to only ones that will fit your specific needs.

You will also need to know the dimensions of your space – this will give us a better sense of the layout and help find ways to maximize the size of your space. We will also go through what your vision is – how you want the gym set up, if you want different areas dedicated to certain activities, etc. Whatever your vision is, we’ll find a way to make it happen!

I want artificial turf in my gym – what are my options and considerations?

AR: We have a wide variety of artificial turf options, so if you have a budget restriction, let us know and we can start narrowing down to a few options that best fit your needs.

You will want to explain to us exactly what you plan to use the turf for. For example, if you only plan to do yoga or stretching on the turf, we would recommend a softer, more plush option. If you are planning on doing sled pushes/pulls and intense workouts, we recommend a more durable option. Check out a breakdown of our most popular gym turf options.

GT34 Turf

One of our most popular artificial turf options – soft to the touch but holds up to heavy traffic. Life span is about 4-6 years for commercial application. Will last longer in residential application.

Colors Available in: Green

Stadium Turf

This turf is made of nylon, making it an extremely durable and long lasting product, great for high impact workouts. Life span is about 6-8 years for commercial application. Will last longer in residential application.

Colors Available in: Green

GT48 Turf

Another one of our most popular turf options – this turf has the softest, most plush feel to the touch, but still holds up to heavy traffic. Life span is about 6-8 years for commercial application. Will last longer in residential application.

Colors Available in: Green, Black, Blue, Grey, Red, White, Yellow

Arena Turf

This turf is great at replicating the feel of natural grass – It has longer turf blades, which gives it a soft feel and helps to prevent friction injuries. Perfect for speed and strength training. Life span is about 8-10 years for commercial application. Will last longer in residential application.

Colors Available in: Green, White, Black, Blue, Pink, Red

Elite Turf

Our premium turf option. Good at replicating the look and feel of natural grass. Perfect for all training applications. Life span is about 8-10 years for commercial application. Will last longer in residential application.

Colors Available in: Green, White, Black, Blue, Tan

Can I customize my turf?

With the exception of Stadium and GT34, all our turf options can be customized with inlaid turf. You can add hash marks like a football field or add a pop of color with your logo! Please note, your logo or line marks will NOT be painted on the turf; we carefully hand cut and inlay different turf colors to create a design that is a part of the turf and will never chip or fade.

I want rubber flooring in my gym – what are my options and considerations?

Our rubber flooring is a perfectly durable and low maintenance option for any fitness facility.

We highly recommend our Rubber Flooring Rolls. These rolls have a few standard sizes, but we can also customize the size to fit your space.

Standard Sizes Available: 4′ x 25′ | 4 ‘ x 30′ | 4′ x 40′ | 4′ x 50’ | Custom

Our rubber flooring rolls are perfect for high impact workouts. We have two options for thickness – 6mm or 8mm. The 6mm rubber flooring is a great option if you are only looking to have rubber underneath your workout machines. Otherwise, we highly recommend the 8mm rolls for high impact training because it will protect the floors from dropping weights.

Colors Available in: Solid Black or Colored (see below)

Another option we have for rubber flooring is our Interlocking Rubber Flooring Tiles. These come in 2′ x 2′ pieces of rubber flooring that fit together like a puzzle piece. While we recommend our Rubber Flooring Rolls, this is a good alternative for those who do not want to fully glue down their rubber flooring.

How can I install my turf and/or rubber flooring?

We highly recommend a full glue down for both turf and rubber flooring. This will help the products stay flat, as well as connect pieces together better.

We understand that sometimes a full glue-down is not an option – if your building is leased and you anticipate that you will want to pick up your artificial turf/ rubber flooring and bring it with you, then you should consider other options. These other options include using double sided tape or loose laying the flooring. While we do not recommend these options, we have seen them both work many times before.

On Deck Sports can install your turf and rubber flooring at an additional cost for you. You can also hire a local contractor.

Can I see my project before it is installed?

We can create a mock-up drawing if you request it.

How soon can I receive my turf and rubber flooring?

All together about 2-3 weeks. Leads times may vary.

On Deck Sports is proud to have helped more than 1,500 customers get their indoor facilities up and running since 2001.
